Common terms for stainless steel

Cold reduction

The process of rolling cold coils through cold rolling mill pickling hot rolled plates makes stainless steel stronger, thinner, and smoother by applying pressure.

Cold rolled strip (plate)

Stainless steel that has been run through a cold rolling mill. The sheet is less than 3 inches/16 inches, 24 inches wide, and the stripes are less than 3/16 inches, below 24 inches.

Continuous casting

Continuous casting is an advanced casting method that continuously pours molten metal into a special metal mold called a crystallizer. The solidified (crusted) casting is continuously pulled out from the other end of the crystallizer, and it can obtain castings of any length or specific length.

Converter/processor

Stainless steel customers require stainless steel to be in a more complete state, such as pipelines and cold rolled strips.

Corrosion

Chemical reagents convert the erosion of metals into non-metallic products. Stainless steel has a passivation film formed due to the presence of chromium (and usually other alloying elements such as nickel and molybdenum), which resists this process.

Corrosion fatigue

Cracks caused by repeated and fluctuating stresses in corrosive environments.

Corrosion resistance

The ability of metals to resist corrosion in specific environments.

Abbreviation for "cold rolling annealing and pickling".

Crevice corrosion

The corrosion on the surface of stainless steel plates is completely covered by air, which prevents the formation of a passivation film to resist corrosion.

Cutting length

Cut flat rolled stainless steel plates into the required length and stack them.

Stretching

The forming process of pressing metal into or through a mold (such as cold drawing).

Drawn core rod

In order to produce special stainless steel pipes, pull rods are used to pull the pipes through molds and core rods, which can effectively control the inner diameter and wall thickness.
