Difference between cold-rolled and hot-rolled stainless steel

Jan 28, 2023

The thickness of cold-rolled stainless steel plate is less than 6mm, and the surface is 2B.

The thickness of hot rolled stainless steel plate is between 3mm and 16mm, and its surface is generally NO.1.

Hot-rolled stainless steel is made of steel billets by the rolling mill after heating. The hot steel strip from the rolling mill is cooled by the flow, and is rolled into steel strip coil by the coiler. The cooled steel strip coil is processed according to the demand.

advantage:

1. Destroy the casting structure of the steel ingot, make the structure of the steel become dense, the grain become fine, and eliminate the microstructure defects.

2. Stainless steel hot rolling has good toughness and ductility, and low price.

3. The torsion resistance of hot-rolled stainless steel is better than that of cold-rolled stainless steel.

Disadvantages:

1. The residual stress caused by uneven cooling makes the deformation, stability and fatigue resistance of stainless steel poor during hot rolling.

2. The mechanical properties of hot rolled stainless steel are far less than that of cold rolled stainless steel.

Cold rolled stainless steel

It is produced by processing and rolling of hot rolled stainless steel plate and coil. The mechanical properties are poor and the hardness is high. The mechanical properties can be restored only after annealing. Those without annealing are called rolling hard coils. Rolling hard coil is generally used to make products without bending and stretching.

advantage:

1. The molding speed is fast, the output is high, and the coating is not damaged.

2. Strong plastic deformation ability and high yield point.

3. The cold rolled surface of stainless steel is free of oxide scale, with good quality and high dimensional accuracy.

Disadvantages:

1. The cold-rolled stainless steel has small wall thickness and weak ability to bear local concentrated load.

2. There is still residual stress in the section after forming, which makes the cold rolling buckling performance of stainless steel worse.

3. Low toughness, easy to buckle under pressure, poor torsional resistance and high price
