Passivation

When exposed to air, stainless steel naturally passivates (due to the presence of chromium). But the time required may vary. To ensure rapid modification of the passivation layer after pickling, a solution of nitric acid and water is used for passivation treatment.

Oxidation

It is a characteristic state of stainless steel that hinders normal corrosion tendencies until the metal is almost completely free from corrosion, thus passivating its environment.

Pickling

A method of removing surface scale and oxidation products by immersion in chemically active solutions such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.

Stainless steel plate

Stainless steel measures over ten inches wide and has a thickness range of 3/16 inches and above.

Post weld heat treatment

Heat and cool the weldment in a manner that achieves the required performance.

Powdered metal

Manufacturing technology, in which fine metal powders are compacted and heated under high pressure to solidify the material.

Precipitation Hardening (PH)

A type of stainless steel, similar to cordierite stainless steel that has strong strength and hardness due to heat treatment.

Protective coating

The temporary adhesive protective film attached to the surface of the stainless steel plate can protect the material surface during the forming and processing operations before final use.

Board

Stainless steel flat rolled products with a thickness of less than 3/16 inches and a width of no more than 24 inches.

Shot blasting

Clean using stainless steel shot peening as abrasive. Not recommended for use with stainless steel. Glass bead shall be used.

Slab

A common type of semi-finished stainless steel with a width of 30-85 inches and an average length of 20 feet is usually measured to be 6-10 inches thick. After casting, the slab is sent to the strip mill, rolled and rolled into sheets and plate products 

Splitting

Cut a piece of stainless steel into smaller strips to meet customer needs.

Solution heat treatment

Heat the metal to a high temperature and keep it for a long enough time to allow one or more components to enter the solid solution. Then quickly cool the solution to keep the component inside.

Strength

Consider the ability of stainless steel to resist stretching, forming, compression, and other forces.

Stripe

Stainless steel flat rolled products, less than 3/16 inches, with a width not exceeding 24 inches.

Structure

A set of building stainless steel products, including I-beams, H-beams, wide flange beams, and sheet piles. These products are used for multi-story buildings, bridges, vertical highway supports, etc.

Ton

A unit of measurement for stainless steel scrap iron and iron ore. Long (net) ton: 2240 pounds; Short (net) ton: 2000 pounds; Metric tons: 1000 kilograms (2204.6 pounds or 1.102 short tons).

Vacuum deoxygenation (VOD)

Refine stainless steel to reduce carbon content. The melted unrefined stainless steel is heated and stirred by an electric current, while oxygen enters from the top. Many unnecessary gases are discharged from stainless steel and evacuated by a vacuum pump.
