The difference between low carbon stainless steel and low carbon steel

Mar 30, 2021

Low-carbon stainless steel refers to austenitic stainless steel with a carbon content of less than 0.03% or a ferritic stainless steel with a carbon content of less than 0.01. Due to the excellent performance of corrosion resistance, high and low temperature resistance, and intergranular corrosion resistance, it can be used in harsh environments.

Low-carbon steel is a carbon steel with a carbon content of less than 0.25%. Because of its low strength, low hardness and softness, it is called mild steel. Low-carbon steel has a wide range of applications, and is often used in the manufacture of chains, fasteners, etc.

Low carbon stainless steel is different from low carbon steel in composition, classification and application.

Compared with low-carbon steel, low-carbon stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance, high hardness and low plasticity.

Low-carbon stainless steel and low-carbon steel have great differences in strength, ductility, hardness, aesthetics and cost. According to the scope of the industry, select the appropriate steel grade.
